Friday and Saturday will have classes for ASL students and interpreters from 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Thursday and Friday evenings will have optional classes.   Interpreters should be able to obtain more than 2.0 RID CEUs … over a year’s quota at this and future Silent Weekends.   We are planning a Sunday morning program for three hours with RID CEUs applied for.   Our feature for 2009 is a legal interpreting track. In 2010, it will be medical interpreting.

Classes

The Thursday night starting time was chosen to allow you to obtain the most inexpensive airfare and to allow many participants to honor their Sunday morning church obligations.  This Silent Weekend will have around 100 hours of classes to choose from.

You can go to www.DrSign.com and see a list of classes offered in past years to get an idea of what will be offered this year.  As presenters are acceopted they will be posted on the website.  The complete program book minus the handouts will be online at the beginning of June.

There will be a few plenary sessions and mostly 2-3 concurrent sessions each for beginners; intermediate; and advanced groups.  You should have had at least one full year of ASL classes for beginners.

For those knowing no sign language at all, we are having a special NOVICE class where you will stay with the same teacher and she will use voicing to help you feel comfortable.  RID CEUs are applied for all advanced classes.

Did you remember the past few interpreter conferences you attended?  Some of those classes were four hours long and things really seems to drag on and on.  At this Silent Weekend, most of the classes are just one or two hours long, keeping things moving quickly and your interest level high.
