In order to give sponsors lead time to
plan their budgets for future
years and presenters time to block out their schedules, we are posting future Silent Weekend dates at Florida
Hotel at the Florida Mall in
Orlando.
This may be the only venue
that consistently offers
you
FREE PARKING (some recent conferences had $35 per day parking), FREE
INTERNET (some hotels charge $12.95 per day for this!) and there is a
HUGE FOOD COURT offering COMPLETE MEALS for less than the price of a
hot dog at many conferences! Accessible with a DIRECT EXIT OFF
INTERSTATE 4 in Orlando!
The
30th Silent Weekend,
sponsored by
ASL
Services,
Inc. , Florida
Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Gallaudet University
Regional Center, Innovative
Communication Services for the Deaf, LLC, Nationwide
Interpreter Resources, Inc., and Time to Sign, had more than 600 in attendance with 52
workshops
offering CEUs and 50 others for ITP and ASL students from 24 states.
The 31st
Silent Weekend
is June 24-27, 2010 at the Florida Hotel at the Florida Mall with an
anticipated enrollment of 800+ (there is
room for 1,500!) including interpreters,
ITP and ASL students
and teachers. A
Medical Interpreting Track and a
Mental Health Track is being planned in addition
to the regular classes. A
unique feature is the addition of a NOVICE track for those knowing no
sign language at a much reduced rate! This will allow
interpreters and ASL students and teachers to bring friends and family
members to enjoy the conference. This special track will have 12
unique classes in a very
supportive and encouraging environment.

For those who
never attended a silent weekend before, we had, from 2000 to 2009, two
to three concurrent
sessions in a ballroom, with each session facing a corner. This
allowed participants to easily switch from one workshop to
another instead of going to another room, possibly to find a "FULL"
sign on it. However, with much more additional space for 2010,
all advanced/interpreter classes will be in their own rooms..
*The original March 1 deadline was changed
to March 15 due to an error in a Deaf Digest ad.
