The 11th
Annual Florida/Alaska
Motorcycle Benefit Run which is the World's Longest
Motorcycle Benefit Run will be from St.
Augustine, Florida to Hyder, Alaska and points North.
Departure date is July 26, 2012.
A biker
commented: "Wow, and I thought with being a police officer for 37
years in Miami, Florida, that I had "been there, done that, and bought
the T-shirt." Au contraire mon frer. Forget your riots and hurricanes,
this is the real deal."
Here
is the official website with schedule, registration information, and
logs from the past several years
The 2012 route will take you through Alabama, Illinois, Wisconsin,
Minnesota, then
across Canada to Hyder, Alaska from where you can continue North via
Cassiar Highway to connect to the Alcan for Anchorage, Fairbanks,
Homer, Valdez, Arctic Circle, Prudhoe Bay, etc. or return home via a
direct route through North Dakota. This is a 100%
gravel-free road (barring highway construction) to take you to
Hyder, Alaska. If you continue north after Hyder, you can expect
about 30-50 miles of gravel
beginning the
last segment of Cassiar Highway until Tok, Alaska depending on winter
road damage and construction.
Some bikers probably will start from Key West, FL and will go as far as
Arctic Circle and perhaps beyond. Some bikers may meet their
spouses/friends at Calgary Airport where
they can rent cars and follow us to Alaska! When you register,
you will be able to share group emails with other registered bikers and
make plans for after you arrive at Hyder.
