We want to have two tracks --- Language
focused and interpreting
focused.
Workshops presentations will be in 1, 2, 4 or 6-hour
blocks. For beginner signers, blocks should
be 1 hour only. Intermediate signers should have 2-hour blocks
(though a few one-hour
blocks may be accepted) while advaned signers and interpreters can have
some 4-hour blocks.
The Silent Weekend has four langauge
levels: (1)
Fledgling signers (participants
knowing no sign language
whatsoever. Presenters will use voicing for this group only and
teach basic ASL grammar and vocabulary); (2) Beginning signers (these
participants are able to sign very short fragments, have memorized-like
signing); (3) Intermediate signers
(these participants are able to
maintain a short conversation using 2 to 3 sentences with some
creativity in ASL); (4) Advanced
signers (these participants are able
to
carry a spontaneous conversation using directional verbs,
topic/'comment, conditional sentences, indexing, etc) including working interpreters and ITP
students.

less

Participants teaching less than 8 hours will recieve
- $120.00 per workshop hour
Presenters must arrive at the hotel no later
than 3 p.m. Thursday, June
27, 2013. Each presenter will be introduced to the audience at
the Thursday night orientation at 7 p.m. and be ready to answer
questions about their workshops.
Presenters must be able to go to their
assigned areas and start their
presentations on time and continue for the full allocated time with
none or
minimal
assistance from the silent weekend staff (your requested equipment will
be ready and waiting for you). Laptops will not be provided and
you should be thoroughly familiar on how to adjust your laptop so you
can see an image on your screen and the LCD screen. Based on our
experience at various conferences, many presenters
didn't know how to set up their PowerPoint presentation! If you
don't know how to use PowerPoint, we have plenty of overhead projectors
for you to use!
NOTE:
We will not supply computers or laptops. If you have a Mac, bring
your
VGA adaptor! You should know how to adjust/'modify your
display/monitor control as each laptop is different. The
reason why is that after you hook up the LCD projector and start up
your laptop, there may be no image on the LCD screen or your laptop's
screen. One of the F keys on the top row should allow you
to quickly correct the situation.
Only
20 presenters will be selected --- please
complete the application
and send
in with a resume.
Presenters will be finalized beginning September
2012 and the selection will be closed when we have
all the presenters
we need. If
selected, presenters will need to:
Submit workshop abstracts, biography and picture for the program book
by February 15, 2013
Submit a current
RID
Instructor's form for each submitted application by March
1,
2013
Submit handouts by May 15, 2013
Please ... NO SOUND. The only
exception for that are workshops for voicing and music ... these
classes will be held at a different conference floor to ensure the main
silent weekend program remains silent.
