Jennifer L.
Cranston earned her bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education from Flagler
College. She went on to attend George
Mason University and graduated with her M.Ed in ESOL Curriculum &
Instruction, as it relates to teaching deaf and hard-of-hearing
students. Mrs. Cranston has presented at
TESOL
conferences and is a regular guest presenter for the Graduate Education
Program
at George Mason University. She was
accepted into the Deaf Education Ph.D Program at Gallaudet University. However, two years ago, after teaching
English to deaf students for eight years in Fairfax County and two
years at
Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD)on the Gallaudet University
Campus,
Ms. Cranston made a career change into the field of Interpreting, where
she
holds NIC-Advanced, NIC:K-12, & EIPA 4.4 certifications. Jennifer was recently selected as the
recipient of the Potomac Chapter of the Registry of Interpreters for
the Deaf’s
(PCRID) “Grow Your Own Workshop” Scholarship, which she was recognized
for when
presenting presenting at this year’s PCRID Annual Conference in
Maryland this
past November. She enjoys mentoring
other interpreters and plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Interpreting from
Gallaudet
University in the future. However,
currently she enjoys her family time with her husband, six year-old son
and
three year-old daughter in Northern Virginia. Interpreting

Do you really understand the difference between transliteration and
interpreting? Theoretically, most interpreters feel the answer
would be
'Yes', but can you put it into practice? Clear distinctions and
components of each product will be presented. In addition,
audience
members will participate in activities involving producing and
analyzing
products.
