Dear Friends,
I am looking forward to joining Mike
Tucelli at Dr. Sign's 30th Annual ASL Silent Weekend, June 25 - 28,
2009 in Orlando, Florida. Not only is this year a celebration of its 30th anniversary,
it is also the world's largest silent weekend. I hope you will join me
and together we will attend great workshops and activities that will
improve our ASL skills.

The 31st
Silent Weekend is scheduled for June 24-27, 2010 at the Florida Hotel
at the Florida Mall! Imagine being able to
get a full meal at the food court at the Mall for around $4.99 and have
free parking, to boot! We have the entire 2nd floor
with 18 breakout rooms with room for over a thousand people with room
to spare! Take advantage of early bird registration which is MUCH
LESS than other conferences! Early bird registration will begin
in July and continue until the end of August 2009.
Checking local conferences and a certain national conference scheduled
for 2009 and 2010, they are charging up to $575 per person and exhibit
tables from $200 to $500. Get the most variety and
hours of classes for hundreds of dollars less plus hotel rooms up to
$74 per night cheaper plus save on parking, food costs, etc. at the
31st Silent Weekend!
From a RID interpreter:
I was the (deleted for
confidentiality) 2nd VP
and CMP Chairperson for a term .....I'm very thankful to (deleted for
confidentiality) for talking me into going to your Silent
Weekend. It was better than any conference I've ever
attended! I was under the impression that the Silent Weekend was
for sign language students. WRONG ME! I learned a lot, was
entertained, and I met a lot of really neat people while I was there
too! I cannot wait until Next Year! You did a wonderful job
with everything......I could not have been more impressed!
Keep in mind
that if
you are coming to this event to as a part of professional development,
your tax
accountant can advise you to the details but you may be able to deduct
more than
fifty cents per mile for travel, plus lodging and other
expenses. The cost differential from a private
room or putting your family in a room is just a few dollars more and
you may be able to
deduct the
cost of your lodging (single person rate) from your 2008 income
tax so bring your family and
let them enjoy
Orlando while you get a one-stop shopping extravanza of over 2.0 CEUs
in one location with presenters from all over America! So, if you
drive in, for example, 500 miles, that's more
than $500 tax
deduction for mileage alone for the round trip.
With 150 hours of classes
for
interpreters, beginning, intermediate or advanced ASL
and ITP students, we are expecting more
than 500
participants this year. Interpreters
are able to earn over
ONE YEAR'S WORTH OF
CEUS ( more
than 2.2 CEUs ) and bring their
families to a vacation
in the Vacation Capital of the World! See Silent
Weekend Presenters and
Topics!
I was on the FRID Board for years and know that RID
affiliates' board members are very dedicated people so I want to do
something special for them. All RID affiliate Presidents or
First Vice Presidents as
listed on
the RID website will have free
registrations for the 2010 Silent Weekend for the fourth year in
a row ... one per
affiliate. All you need to do is
to print out the registration form, fill it
out, write on it 'RID AFFILIATE
PRESIDENT/FIRST VICE PRESIDENT' and return by March 15,
2010. All other Board members get a $50 discount each. Make
sure
you mark
on your registration form your position on the Board and deduct $50
from the current registration price.
